My parents live in one of the most tranquil places in the world.... Central East Coast Florida. We're not talking Miami or Fort Lauderdale or even the mouse's house, we're talking the middle of nowhere Florida. Talking to my mother this morning she mentioned to me that she would like to volunteer but not at the hospital. My immediate thoughts were how easy it would be to find my own mother something she'd really like... until I started looking. My mother is retired and available during prime hours yet there was close to NOTHING that I could find for her to volunteer for. In fact, the local United Way had so few volunteer opportunities that they don't even bother listing them on their website! Is this because they have so many volunteers or just that they are under utilizing the volunteer resources they have? Do we need a TWIF Seniors division or should we just fly my mom out here to pour beer for a cause with us?
