That’s the tagline for SAM’s new exhibit Elles. The opening is this thursday from 10am to 9pm, which means that you have the entire day to go see it! Actually, you will have until January. There are several days when you can go into the museum for free too, like this Friday and next First Thursday. Check out their calendar and get ready!
I am so very very excited about this exhibit, please bear with me if I go into a rant. The work on display was organized by the Centre Pompidou in Paris which houses the Musée d’Art Moderne, where many of the works are coming from. The aim is to display the works and history of women in art from 1907 to 2007.
Yes, it is an exhibit about the women in art, why? because it wasn’t until the 20th Century that women were much more active and welcomed into the arts. Of course, we’ll see the big names like Yayoi Kusama, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Marina Abramović but what makes this unique is that the impact will be all over Seattle. Starting with Elles: Pompidou, Elles:SAM, Elles:Seattle, galleries and venues will contribute to the discussion of women in art all over Seattle. Check out the events that I won’t miss out on by Seattle Theatre Group, Henry Art Gallery, 4Culture, Frye Art Museum, and SugarPill. There will be performances, gatherings, and exhibits!
I hope to see everyone at the opening on thursday night or at the Community Eventon Friday!
