Happy October dear blog readers! It’s time to break out the pumpkin paraphernalia and start thinking about Halloween costumes (if you haven’t already). If you find yourself with any free time between getup-brainstorming sessions and cider-fueled hayrides, you should attend one of the sweet TWIF events detailed below. Happy Fall!
Oktoberfestivus Member Night: Monday, 10/6, 6:00pm – 8:00pm
This event will be just as awesome as our normal TWIF Member Nights, except this time it’s dressed up in lederhosen—that’s right, we’re paying homage to Oktoberfest. Join us for cold Ninkasi beer, games and pretzels in the Better Living Room while mingling with other TWIF members and their guests.
Note to new members: You can pick up your New Member Packet at this event and have your photo taken for our member wall. This event is open to members and their guests only.
TWIF Brunch Club: Sunday, 10/12, 12:00pm
Brunch: It’s the most important meal of the weekend. Join other TWIF staff and members for some mid-day sustenance at Randy’s Diner, one of Seattle’s beloved greasy spoons. Be prepared for neon formica, bright orange and magenta booths and model airplanes hanging from the ceiling. Note: This restaurant is located at 10016 E Marginal Way South in Tukwila. It’s a little farther South than we normally venture, but it should be worth it.
Brunch Club is held on the 2nd Sunday of each month and moves from one delicious restaurant to another. Members and Staff are invited to bring along a friend or two but we ask that you register in advance so we know an appropriate head count for our reservation. Please arrive a few minutes before noon so we can get seated on time. Bon appétit!
Hello My Name is TWIF: Tuesday, 10/14, 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Are you new(ish) to TWIF? Do you want to get a better idea of what our different teams do, or are you considering becoming a staff member yourself? If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then come join us for happy hour in the Ninkasi Better Living Room to meet with other volunteers, learn about what other teams contribute and hear firsthand experiences. You can learn about how you can get more out of your volunteering and take on an ongoing role with TWIF. Feel free to bring a few friends.
Our office is located at 7551 B 15th Avenue NW in Ballard. The office is tucked on the side of 7551 A (a hair salon). It’s not super visible from the street but you will see our logo on the door and a large letter "B". There is usually plenty of street parking right in front and the Rapid Ride D Line stops all along 15th Avenue NW.
See you there!
Volunteer at the Food Bank: Saturday, 10/25, 9:00am – 1:30pm
Join TWIF at the Food Bank as we work together to inspect and organize food donations, distribute the food to customers and perform other tasks as needed. Volunteers must be able to stand for at least an hour at a time. Ability to lift at least 30 pounds is desired, but is not required. Volunteers must be able to work with a diverse population and should be comfortable in a loud, fast-paced and crowded environment.
In addition to meeting other volunteers you'll be doing some very important work. Did you know that over 10% of the homes in Seattle are food insecure? The Food Bank provides anyone over 18 living within Seattle City Limits with a variety of meat, vegetables, fruits, dairy products, frozen items, canned goods and more.
TWIF Bingo: Wednesday, 10/29, 7:00 pm
The last time you played Bingo, did you end up dance-battling it out with other Bingo players, or facing off with each other in a trivia challenge? Unless you played Bingo with TWIF, you probably didn’t. TWIF Bingo takes the age-old retirement-home game to the next awesome level with name that tune, physical challenges, brainteasers and lots of fun. Your donation of $20 will get you 6 full games of Bingo, tasty beverages and a chance to hang with some of the most creative bingo players in town.
Seats are limited so get your tickets while they last! This fundraiser will help support our programs. Doors open at 7:00pm, games start at 7:30pm. Members save $5 off admission.
