June is (almost) busting out all over in Seattle. Not invited to any weddings? No problem. TWIF has a ton of events on the calendar that are a lot more fun than that (no offense to weddings).
FareStart Contract Kitchen: Sunday, 6/1, 10:00am to 3:00pm
Take a crack at culinary greatness in the FareStart Contract Kitchen for a good cause! TWIF will help prepare a nutritious meal alongside FareStart’s chefs and students. FareStart is a culinary job training and placement program for homeless and disadvantaged individuals. Since 1992, FareStart has provided opportunities for nearly 7,000 people to transform their lives, while also serving over 6 million meals to disadvantaged men, women, and children.
SAM Remix: Friday, 6/6, 8:00pm to 11:00pm
Join SAM and TWIF on Friday, June 6th for a fun-filled art party complete with performances, art-making, talks, live music and more. If you’ve ever been to a Remix event, you know how awesome they can be. One included a step-by-step tutorial for the dance moves to Madonna’s “Vogue” music video.
And this month? Treat your ears to the musical stylings of DJ Sassyblack (aka Cat of THEESatisfaction) and catch performances by musician and visual artist Rulon Brown. Get your tickets soon, because this event sells out quickly.
Treehouse Wearhouse: Saturday, 6/7, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Sort through clothes, school supplies, toys and books to help get the best of the best to foster children in need. All items will go to the Wearhouse, a place where foster kids can shop for free. As a volunteer, you’ll help sort, tag and restock merchandise. More than 2000 foster kids shop at the Wearhouse each year. There are always a few weird/wacky clothing items to see, so don’t miss this fun opportunity to make a difference AND put your fashion sense to work.
TWIF Brunch Club: Sunday, 6/8, 12:00pm
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but brunch is much more fun. Join TWIF members and staff for some Finnish Pancakes, Welsh Eggs or Benedict (or whatever else your heart desires) at EETBAR, 1556 NW 56th Street in Ballard.
More about TWIF Brunch Club: Brunch Club is a time for TWIF Members and staff to get together over delicious breakfast foods and get to know each other better. It’s held on the 2nd Sunday of each month and moves from one delicious restaurant to another. Members and Staff are invited to bring a friend or two but we ask that you register in advance so we have an accurate head count for our reservation.
El Norte Bike-n-Brews: Sunday, 6/8, 12:30pm to 5:00pm
May was National Bike to Work month, but even if you didn’t jump on that bandwagon, you can still join TWIF for some biking and beers on June 8th. The World Is Fun has teamed up with the Cascade Bicycle Company to bring an event that’s equal parts exercise and local craft brews. As a volunteer, you might help with set-up, distributing hats for riders, manning the bike corral, cheering riders at the finish line or engaging with social media. As rewards for your labors, you’ll get a drink ticket for a beverage of your choice at the start/finish line, where there will be live tunes and grub.
Member Night: Monday, 6/9, 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Just joined TWIF? Been with us for a while now? Either way, come hang out and enjoy some delicious Ninkasi brews with us.
Meet other TWIF Members, share stories, and make friends. There's really no agenda here other than a little fun and no two events end up the same. This event is open to members and their guests only.
New Members: You can pick up your New Member Packet at this event and have your photo taken for our member wall. Smile!
Hello, My Name Is TWIF: Tuesday, 6/10, 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Want to give back to your community and have a blast at the same time? Do you want to meet new people or get involved with great organizations? Then, do we have good news for YOU! Come learn how to do all of the above!
This event is perfect if you want to learn how to be even more than a one time TWIF volunteer. We never require any sort of orientation before our volunteer events (just sign up!) but if you are looking for more information on how to be an Event Coordinator, join our volunteer staff or become a Board Member, this night is for you!
You’ll meet other TWIF volunteers, learn about what different teams contribute, and hear firsthand experiences—all while enjoying a tasty beverage (think Ninkasi) with us!
Please register for this event if you plan to attend so we can get an accurate head count. Feel free to bring friends!
Beer Camp: Saturday, 6/21 to Sunday, 6/22
Your childhood summer camp could never live up to the fun in store for you at Beer Camp. That's right... Beer Camp! TWIF and Ninkasi are teaming up to bring you a two-day experience in Winthrop Washington full of beer pouring, river floating and relaxing by the camp-side.
The Itinerary: Saturday morning we travel over the mountains to Winthrop Washington. We’ll be pouring beer at the Winthrop Hop Rendezvous Brewfest, a community fund-raiser. After our shift it’s off to the campsite (which has teepees).
When we wake Sunday morning we'll enjoy a camp-side breakfast before we head out for a float on the river. Then we’ll grab dinner and head back to Seattle. Food and tasty beer will be provided. Bring your best campfire stories and songs for the fireside.
Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center: Saturday, 6/21, 10:00am to 3:00pm
Love animals (especially those of the equine variety)? Then come spend a morning with TWIF getting ready for Little Bit’s annual horse show! In these annual shows riders can choose classes that utilize the unique qualities of horses to affect positive change in the lives of children and adults with disabilities.
We will help by setting up bleachers, doing a bit of landscaping and cleaning to get the outdoor arena in tip-top shape for the riders!
Little Bit is a therapeutic riding center that seeks to improve the bodies, minds, and spirits of children and adults with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy and activities. It is one of the largest full-time therapeutic horsemanship programs in the United States.
Bingo! Thursday, 6/26, Doors at 6:30pm, Event Starts at 7:00pm
