Coffee no longer comes to mind when the general public thinks of the Northwest. No, that illustrious elixir that lures people to Seattle is beer--and it's always micro-brewed. Our fair state gives us myriad opportunities to drink beer, and that's why we love it here.
This past weekend was the Washington Brewers Festival. Every weather pattern imaginable made an appearance at this year's event, but that didn't stop the beer from flowing and the hops-lovers from swarming the grounds of Marymoor Park.
At least 88 Washington breweries were in attendance this year, and they offered more than 300 different brews. Many of our local Ballard breweries were the talk of the town, especially Reuben's Brews, whose Robust Porter won the gold award at the 2014 Washington Beer Awards; and Stoup Brewing, who took home the silver medal for their Stoup Porter (Click here for the full list of 2014 Washington Beer Award winners). My favorite part about this festival was discovering new (or new-to-me) breweries. There are so many creative, classic, and just plain refreshing beers here in Washington State!
The summer festival season is here, and Seattleites will revel in the festivities rain or shine (as long as beer is involved), so keep your station tuned to the TWIF blog for upcoming posts on the must-attend summer festivals of 2014.
