Summer has (officially) arrived in Seattle. The painted bicyclists have haunted the streets of Fremont’s Solstice Parade, Pride Week livened up Capitol Hill and fireworks lit up Lake Union for the 4th of July Celebrations at Gas Works Park. Next up: the rest of July. Will the Running of the Bulls in Fremont be the best it’s ever been? Will the Milk Carton Derby on Green Lake kick off SeaFair with a bang? Only time will tell. Read on for the details surrounding TWIF events this month.
Hello, My Name is TWIF: Tuesday, 7/8, 6:00pm-7:00pm
If you’re looking to get involved with TWIF beyond being just a one-time volunteer, come to this event to learn how to do just that. Want to become an Event Coordinator, join our volunteer staff or become a board member? Then this evening is right for you.
Grab a Ninkasi beer with us and talk to TWIF staff, learn about what different teams contribute and find out how you can make your commitment to TWIF more ongoing.
Our headquarters are located at 7551 B 15th Avenue NW in Ballard. Please register if you plan to attend, and feel free to bring friends!
Get Dirty at Marra Farm: Saturday, 7/12, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Nurture that latent green thumb and help out an awesome organization at Marra Farm in South Seattle with TWIF. The Giving Garden at Marra Farm provides fresh produce and educational opportunities to food insecure individuals in Seattle. Come check it out with us!
Past activities have included weeding out invasive species, checking and repairing drip irrigation systems and spreading wood chips. Find out firsthand what this great urban community farm is like and sign up now!
TWIF Brunch Club: Sunday, July 13 11:45 am
Much like the Breakfast Club of John Hughes fame, TWIF brunch club brings together people from all cliques. OK, well, not exactly. But it does bring together TWIF members and staff over delicious food to enjoy a relaxed good time.
This month the fun goes down at the Row House Café, located at 170 Republican Street in Seattle. Check out the brunch menu, but my eyes are set on the 100 Layer French toast, 14-Carat Lox and/or Crab Cake Benedict. Decisions decisions.
Member Night: Monday, 7/14, 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Get to know fellow TWIF members in the Ninkasi Better Living Room. There's really no agenda here other than a little fun, and no 2 events end up the same. This event is open to members and their guests only.
New Members: You can pick up your New Member Packet at this event and have your photo taken for our member wall. Hope to see you there!
Kirkland Uncorked: Sunday, 7/20, 11:30am to 3:30pm
Calling all wine aficionados and animal lovers on the eastside (and elsewhere)! Kirkland Uncorked features local wine and art in scenic Marina Park, and this year it’s benefitting Homeward Pet Adoption Center, one of Washington’s leading no-kill shelters.
Volunteers will be taking tokens and pouring wine for event attendees. Once your shift ends, enjoy free admission to the event, a commemorative glass, 10 tasting tokens and an official Kirkland Uncorked volunteer t-shirt. Note: You don’t have to be a wine aficionado or eastsider to go to this event.
Clips Beer and Film Tour: Friday, 7/25, 6:00pm to Midnight
The Clips Beer and Film Tour is a traveling festival featuring short films from all over the country and some of the nation’s best microbrews. The coolest thing about this traveling show is that it benefits local non-profits in the city it visits. When it comes to Seattle on the 25th, it will donate 100% of the festival proceeds to the Nature Consortium, a local organization that inspires people in the Puget Sound region to become creative leaders through art and environmental action.
As a volunteer at this event, you’ll be checking IDs, serving beer, running the gift tent and/or the photo booth. This amazing event has raised over $160,000 to support local non-profits in the past. Come see what all the buzz is about.
Bingo! Thursday, 7/31, Doors at 6:30, Games start at 7:00pm
What could liven up a sleepy summer Thursday evening better than Bingo TWIF-style? Our Bingo involves trivia, physical challenges, name that tune and unique prizes.
Your donation ($25 general admission, $15 TWIF members) goes toward supporting our programs. One ticket will get you 6 full games of Bingo in our courtyard. Seats are limited so get your tickets while they last! This is an outdoor event and may be rescheduled due to bad weather, as bingo balls do not like rain.
