I cannot think of a better way to spend my day. Today, armed with my friend Nicole in town from Virginia, we headed to the Floating House Tour put on by the Seattle Floating Homes Association. I’ve lived in Seattle almost a full year and have yet had the opportunity to see any of its 500 or so floating homes up close…. so when the opportunity presented itself I jumped on it.
For $25 I got a chance to view 14 floating homes. 12 were on the tour, the other two were Open Houses for houses that are for sale. The houses ranged in size, age and style but all of them were remarkable and Nicole and I spent the afternoon daydreaming about what living on the water must be like.
My favorite was the ultra-modern 3 floor, 3000sf house with an underwater basement, complete with underwater windows. The top of the house had a rooftop deck and all the furnishings were to die for.
Although the modern house was by far my favorite, I also fell in love with the quaintness of the small cottages and the comforting feel that they had. Nicole and I must have repeated the phrase “if I lived here I’d never leave the house” at least 50 times today.
Everyone from the Floating Homes Association was super welcoming and I would HIGHLY recommend this tour when it comes around again. Sadly, it won’t be for awhile.
