MLK Day Festivities

Martin Luther King Day falls on Monday January 19th this year. Lucky enough to have the day off work? You could succumb to hibernation mode by sleeping until 2pm and then crawling to your couch for a reality TV marathon, but why not make the most of the day and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy by hitting up one of the many activities taking place around Seattle? If you know you won’t be able to resist your couch’s powerful pull come Monday, don’t worry, some of the below options take place earlier in the week.

King County’s 2015 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration

  • What: “Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and...recognize our individual and collective responsibility to continue his important work.”

MLK, Jr. Celebration Featuring T.I.

  • What: Hip hop concert celebrating MLK.
  • When: Sunday January 18th. Doors at 7pm, show at 8pm.

KEXP’s 15th Annual Expansions MLK Unity Party

  • What:  A night of music and dance in celebration of the Dr. Martin Luther King.
  • When: Sunday January 18th. Doors at 8pm, party until 2am.

Seattle’s 33rd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Rally and March

  • What: Workshops, a rally, speakers, and a march. This year’s theme is “fight for your rights.”
  • When: Workshops – 9:00 to 9:50 AM, rally – 10:00AM to  11:00AM, pre-march speakers – 11:00 to 12:00 PM.  March leaves Garfield HS -- 12:00PM
