Don't sleep (too) late this Saturday! Seattle ReCreative is re-opening! Seattle's first creative reuse and art center is opening the doors of their new location. They have planned a whole day celebration with art workshops and shopping from 10am-4pm and music and drinks from 5pm-8pm.
What's a creative reuse center, you may ask? It's an institution that gathers materials that would otherwise end up in the waste stream and resells them to the community. Creative reuse centers are environmentally conscientious, provide local communities with various affordable materials and encourage creativity.
In this particular Seattle's own ReCreative center you may find all kinds of paper, yarn, frames, art supplies, gift-wrap and many more items to shop. Their inventory changes quickly so you never know what you may end up finding. And the best part is on the day of the re-opening, when there will be a discount on all reused materials. Additionally, you and your kids can enjoy three very interesting free workshops: Hidden Libraries: Turning Books Into Secret Boxes (10 am-12pm), Paint Playground (12-2pm) and CD Weaving (2-4pm). From 5-8pm it's party time. Enjoy good music, snacks and cocktails and—who knows—maybe win something in the raffle.
If you like art and creativity or you're just curious about it, come to this event and support Emily Korson and Jenna Boitano, who founded Seattle ReCreative about a year ago. Since then the people in Seattle ReCreative have been working hard (especially last month grooming the new location!) to make their exciting dream a reality in Seattle.
