(Ice) Cream of the Crop: 7 Awesome Shops and Their Must-Try Flavors

You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream. Or so the saying goes. We’ve got about five more weeks of summer in which to enjoy this tasty treat, so check out some of these Seattle shops and their most yelled-about flavors. Disclaimer: Taste in ice cream varies wildly. This blog post contains one person’s opinions! Get out and form your own (by eating ice cream, of course).

Bluebird Ice Cream – Horchata and Snickerdoodle

This Capitol Hill ice cream parlor is known for making great ice cream, and a whole lot more – like malts, shakes and beer floats (they make their own beer)! Popular flavors include the vegan Horchata or non-vegan (but awesome) Snickerdoodle.

Fainting Goat Gelato – Sicilian Pistachio and Goat Milk

Wish you were enjoying gelato somewhere in Italy – perhaps the majestic island of Sicily? Stop into Fainting Goat in Wallingford and taste the old world goodness in every spoonful. We recommend the Sicilian Pistachio at FG, as it’s received pretty stellar shout-outs on Yelp. And if you’re feeling brave you should try the Fainting Goat flavor as well (Goat Milk).

Full Tilt Ice Cream – Mayan Chocolate

This scrappy, be-pinballed establishment offers a lot of bang for your buck, and, depending on the location, retro arcade games. Vegans will be at home here, as Full Tilt offers several flavors made with coconut milk. The Mayan Chocolate vegan flavor is amazing – and that’s coming from a non-vegan.

Molly Moon’s has quickly earned cult status in Seattle for their high-quality ice cream, locally sourced ingredients and creative flavors. The menu changes with the seasons, but one long-time favorite is their creamy and delicious Stumptown Coffee. Scout Mint and Salted Caramel bring strong games as well.

Old School Frozen Custard – The Playground Sundae

While OSFC doesn’t technically serve ice cream (they serve frozen custard, which apparently is creamier and lower in calories!), we thought you’d like to hear about their way cool offerings. You can’t go wrong with the Playground Sundae, a glorious concoction made of chocolate ice cream, crushed Oreos, chocolate sauce and Gummi worms. Lucky!!

Scoop du Jour Ice Creamery – Coconut Almond Fudge and Maui Waui

If you’re hungry and in Madison Park, look no farther for ice cream than Scoop du Jour. This no-frills joint also serves up hearty burgers and sandwiches, so if you’re looking for “real” food along with your frozen treats, this is the place. Frequent raves include Coconut Almond Fudge and Maui Waui – if nothing else the rainbow colors in the latter will have you smiling.

Snoqualmie Ice Cream – Coconut Sorbet

Snoqualmie Ice Cream offers a bevy of delicious ice creams, gelatos, custards and sorbets in a crazy amount of different flavors. Coconut Sorbet is my personal favorite. If you’re up for a little road trip, you can find your own favorite at their Tasting Room in Maltby, Washington. There you’ll be able to try all their pint flavors as well as five different rotating flavors. Truly scream-worthy.
