Will You Be Our Valentine?

We have to ask a corny question… Will you be our Valentine? There are a thousand ways to say I love you (but giving to TWIF is one of our favorites!)

By now you must know there are two camps for this holiday: The “I don’t believe in Valentine’s Day, it’s a Hallmark holiday and really degrades what LOVE really means” camp - and the “February 14th is a day for love, and if you don’t believe it you are just bitter” Did we just make Valentine’s Day political? Sorry about that. We are actually here to help with a few killer Valentine’s Day ideas.

For the Socially Conscious: We've always thought giving is a lovely way to show you care for someone. You can now immortalize your love (or just your name) by donating to TWIF’s Labor of Love. You will get a personalized paving stone installed in the outdoor space at TWIF HQ in Ballard with whatever you or you and your S.O. can dream up! You get the peace of mind that comes from supporting us in our work to make Seattle a better place for all the lovers (and valentines haters) out there. (stay tuned for more details tomorrow right here!!!)

For the single: Practice a little self care! So many spas are doing discounted rates on massages and facials. So many restaurants are doing a special menu for theeeee day of love. Take advantage and treat yourself. This doesn’t have to be the worst day of the year. February 15th is almost here- I swear.

For the serious couples: Depending on how your S.O feels about the whole mandated day of love thing, this may be the perfect day to pop the question... no, you don’t have to bring up marriage, but a grand gesture of commitment might be the right idea. Maybe it’s a ring, maybe it’s sharing an apartment, maybe it’s just planning a future vacation. if you're both serious -  you want to know things are going somewhere.

For the broke: It’s unfair the way commercialism makes ordinary things like flowers and chocolate extra expensive just around the time you’re supposed to shower your loved ones in gifts. Not to fret friend, you live in Seattle! Take bae to the market and buy them a $10-20 bouquet. Then you’ve got a full day of wandering and a great choice of restaurants from a hot dog stand to Met Grill. We know you can make it work.

For the first dates: Woah... that’s a loaded first date - Good on you! I’m thinking traditional, dinner, watching the sunset and a kiss good night. Don’t get crazy, you’ve already got the whole 'Be Mine' thing going. Let it ride.

For the adventurous: Valentine’s Day is an awesome time to surprise your S.O. with something you wouldn’t normally. Maybe you’ve been planning it for a while, or maybe it’s spur of the moment but the options are endless! Go to a trapeze class, a hot air balloon ride, find a hot spring, or go for a hike. Get away from the city and really focus on an experience with your love!

For the Non-V Day lovers: It’s not a national holiday folks...do whatever the hell you feel like doing.

So there it is; some unsolicited advice. I promise we will all still love each other come Monday, and have fun!
