How do I get involved with The World is Fun?
There are a variety of ways to get involved. From becoming a member to volunteering, to attending an event, there’s an opportunity for everyone. We recommend starting at our Get Involved page for ways you can join in with us. If you’re curious about specific events we’re putting on that you can be a part of, check out our Events page.
Why should I volunteer?
Volunteering tends to have a bad rep as something people have to do, for whatever school or work requirements. We’re here to change that ideology. Volunteering is not only a great way to support your community, it’s also a great way to meet new people, try something new, learn new things about your community and its people, and build your social circle. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet a future friend or business partner, or maybe you’ll walk away inspired to do something to better yourself or the people around you. The opportunities are endless.
Can I get documentation for community service if I volunteer?
We are more than happy to provide documentation for work or school purposes. That said, we do not provide documentation for court ordered community service - because we make volunteering awesome - and awesome things aren't punishment.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. We are officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) which means charitable gifts are considered to be tax deductible contributions.
I have a group of 4+ volunteers, do I just sign up on the website?
The volunteer events listed on our website are intended for individuals so we ask that you do not sign up there. Instead, let us know what you are interested in and we will customize a volunteer experience for your group. All you need to do is contact us.
What is the required commitment level for volunteering?
Our volunteer events are a choose your own adventure format. There is no ongoing commitment as you are only committed to showing up for the event shifts that you sign up for. If you are seeking more of a committed relationship, you should check out our staff roles, volunteer leadership program, or our board of directors.
Do I have to be a member to participate in TWIF events?
Nope. We welcome anyone and everyone to participate in our events. So go ahead and sign up. If you like what you see, feel free to become a member. Not only does membership have its own set of perks, it is a great way for you to show your support for our programs.
Does TWIF have any religious or political affiliations?
No. Our organization is not religious or political and is open and welcoming to everyone.
I need volunteers for my event, do you have overnight shipping?
We do work with nonprofit organizations to help them with their volunteer needs. Information on how your nonprofit can partner with our nonprofit can be found on our Nonprofit Partners page. That said, we do not offer overnight shipping. Our volunteer groups are artisanal and take time to craft, curate, and recruit. We require at least an eight week lead on all volunteer requests.
I cannot volunteer my time, how else can I contribute?
You’ve got a few options to choose from on this one. Check out our Donate Page which details how you can link up your Fred Meyer Rewards card to donate part of your purchases to TWIF, as well as AmazonSmile which also donates part of your purchases to TWIF. Plus, you can always check out our Swag Store or donate to us directly.
Do you operate outside of Seattle?
Uhhhhhh ...no. Why would we? Seattle is the best city on earth. However, we do occasionally gather the troops and head out of town on excursions like The Ninkasi Sleepover in Eugene, Oregon, The Goonies 30th Anniversary in Astoria, Oregon, and Beer Camp in Leavenworth and Winthrop, Washington. We predict there will be more of these out-of-town excursions to come.
Will there ever be a TWIF chapter in my city?
Maybe one day.... but not anytime soon. We are currently focusing all of our efforts on Seattle. Once we get all 652,405 Seattleites involved we will start looking for new areas to expand into.
I would love to do [insert career skill] for TWIF, how can I help?
Check out our open positions and see if we have an opening that aligns with what you are looking for and apply. If you get to the end of the page and you are feeling like U2 and you still haven't found what you are looking for, send us a message telling us what you want to do. If we have a need for the skill we'll make it happen, if we aren't in need of that particular skill, we will help connect you with a nonprofit that does.
Will you take my old shoes?
There's probably a better source for getting rid of your unwanted household and clothing items. If you are not sure where to donate your mustard yellow bridesmaid dress, send us an email and we will happily help you find the perfect charity in need.
Is it true that Tupac volunteered with TWIF?
Well, we've only been around since 2009 so we cannot confirm nor deny any involvement. Hypothetically speaking, if he did volunteer at a past event with Bill Murray, he had an amazing time and contributes his success to his involvement in the community. Again, we cannot confirm, nor deny these claims.
Why are you so awesome?
Thank you for your kind words. We think you are awesome too. Let's be awesome together.
