Woodland Park Zoo is located on the west side of the park that is split by Aurora Avenue. According to the Seattle Parks and Recreation website, the zoo is recognized as “one of the best in the world." The zoo is about 110 years old and spans about 90 acres, 65 of which are developed exhibits and public spaces. The zoo houses over 1,000 animals, which makes the Woodland Zoo the largest live animal collection in the state of Washington. Out of the 1,000 animals, there are 300 different species and 68 species of invertebrates. The zoo also provides a home to 35 endangered species, 5 of which threatened.
The Woodland Zoo is known for their naturalistic exhibits and environments for their animals that eventually revolutionized zoos worldwide.
