Athletes for Kids
Mission: To enhance the lives of children who have special needs and the high school athletes who mentor them. We believe that modeling acceptance and inclusion strengthens and transforms our communities.
Athletes for Kids serves children in 1st through 9th grade who have special needs and disabilities of all kinds. They carefully match each child with a qualified high school athlete who commits to mentoring a child for one to three years. Once a mentorship is formed, the pair will meet two to four times a month.
Founded on the idea that friendship has the power to restore a child’s faith in life, they were incorporated as a non-profit in 2002. Since that time, they have grown into an organization serving children in the cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, and Woodinville. They now serve over 300 youth annually, and have served over 1,200 youth since our founding.
Other Ways to Get Involved:
As a non-profit, Athletes for Kids depends on funding from various sources including grants, private funding, and the generous support of participant families. Each mentorship costs approximately $1,200 per year to support and maintain so donations are always gladly accepted.
