Seattle is home to one of the largest coffee chains on the planet. Throw a rock and you’ll likely land on a Starbucks. But true natives know there is a lot more to coffee than a brand. Supporting local cafés will always be our favorite choice. Finding a great cup of coffee is not hard in this caffeine fueled city, but to get you started here are a few must-tries:
Feeling like a little Italian ambiance? Caffè Umbria is perfect if you’re trying to escape the hustle of downtown. Located in Pioneer Square, their espresso will cure your Monday blues. Even if you need something with a little more umph to get through the day they’ve got you covered with a craft selection of beer and wine. All good Seattleites know, it’s never too early.
Ballard is an awesome place to walk around and get lost. Make sure to stop into Caffè Fiore along the way. It’s Ballard’s very own organic coffee house with a few other locations throughout Seattle. Whether you have five minutes or a few hours Fiore strives to create an environment that makes conversation easy. Community tables and a kids play area ensure everyone is entertained.

Caffe Vita is a great go-to if you’re on Capitol Hill or any other neighborhood in the city as this local chain has six locations for you to get your fix! Not only do they brew a great cup of coffee, they also wholesale so you can enjoy delicious blends at home. And as if owning a coffee shop and roasteria isn’t Seattle enough for you, Vita has its own in house label: Vita Records.

If you’re looking for a coffee haven, Cafe Solstice located on the Ave in the U District is the perfect example. Walking into what appears to be your living room, you’re greeted by baristas who are never too busy to make you something amazing. You’ll definitely lose some time in this home away from home, but don’t worry, they have snacks -- why yes I’ll have some mac and cheese with my Americano!
Giving Teavana a serious run for their money, Cederberg Tea House in Queen Anne is absolutely lovely. The rooibos espresso drink menu is something you won’t find anywhere else in the city. Owning its name, you will find tiny sandwiches and plenty of scones here. This South African inspired cafe is definitely an experience to have with friends.
