As the long summer days come to an end and the cold evenings grow, many people try to seek refuge in basketball courts or tennis courts with outdoor lights. These courts are for the true hoopers and racketeers that want the accessibility to a free court any time of the day because they always think that ball is life!
Denny Field at the University of Washington
This park is not for the faint and weary. Known for its tennis courts, volleyball courts, and basketball courts, they are all equipped with outdoor lighting systems that shine bright like a diamond. During my sophomore year at the University of Washington in the northern dormitory, I would venture into this park late in the evening to vent some stress or to play some tennis with friends because we wanted to get out of our dorm rooms. This park is located on the UW Campus close to the corner of 17th and 45th street. This park does not come with free parking so get ready to pay or walk from another location.
Cal Anderson Park offers the widest range of activities available in Seattle. Bike Polo can be seen on the tennis courts, as well as people lounging in the fields, and groups smoking around the basketball court. However, if you really want to perform an activity, this location has lights around the park and accessibility day or night. The park is located in Capitol Hill between Pine Street and Denny Way.

Green Lake Park is one of the most beautiful and expansive parks in all of Seattle. There is a large lake in the center of the parks, courts, and neighborhoods surrounding it. The park draws thousands of people, offering a nice 2.8 mile run around the lake, outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, and many grass fields. There are also recreational activities like boating, picnics, or swimming in the lake. The lights around the park do not hover directly over the basketball court, but the park is partially illuminated at night for ease of access.

Jefferson Park is actually the sixth largest park around the area with all the courts plus more. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, a skate park, a playground, and dog parks located all inside or around Jefferson Park. There are lots of fields and grassy areas in the middle of the park with community gathering benches/areas encompassing the fields. This park is also the home of Jefferson Park Golf Course, Jefferson Community Center, Jefferson Lawn Bowling, and Jefferson Skate Park. There are ample amounts of outdoor lighting available if you are able to travel here in the evenings.
