Shunpike

Mission: Shunpike’s mission is to empower artists through equitable access to vital expertise, opportunities, and business services.

Shunpike envisions a community where independent artists and arts groups thrive, creatively and economically, and where their work is widely valued as fundamental to the cultural, social, and economic well-being of Washington State.

Category: Arts, Culture & Humanities

At its core, Shunpike is the fiscal sponsor for 175 independent art collectives in Washington, consolidating and undertaking their back-office financial reporting and administrative responsibilities. We currently sponsor a diverse range of arts groups working in visual arts, theatre, music, digital arts, literature, dance, film, community arts, cultural/heritage, and arts education. Collectively, this cohort collaborates with 5,000 artists annually to create 2,500 artistic projects, seen by over 500,000 people.

Additionally, Shunpike offers free Arts Business Clinics and facilitates the Storefronts Program, providing exhibition opportunities for 40 artists annually. Shunpike hosts the Artists of Color Expo & Symposium (ACES), a POC-centered and led arts conference that fosters community, showcases talent, facilitates professional development, and provides resources, while promoting the vast community of artists of color that exist in Washington State. Shunpike partners with Amazon to facilitate their artist residency program that includes 4 artists annually for 10-week residencies on the Amazon downtown campus in Seattle. In addition, Shunpike also presents AiR Salon Artist Talks twice a year, providing the opportunity for the public to hear presentations from Amazon Artists-in-Residence.

Ways to Get Involved: Shunpike offers year round public programming, including: Arts Business Clinics, FS 101 sessions, SLU Art Walks, and AiR Salon Artist Talks. Additionally, Shunpike's annual fundraising gala (GOLDEN) takes place in the fall and Shunpike hosts the 2-day Artists of Color Expo & Symposium (ACES) biennially at the Seattle Center Armory Lofts. Volunteers are welcomed and appreciate at all of these events.
